FAQs
Council Christmas Tree Recycling
Your local Council may take your tree away free of charge. In all the Councils listed below, only real trees are recycled and all decorations, lights and stands must be removed beforehand.
For Barnet Council Christmas tree recycling in early 2026, residents with garden waste collection can leave their decorated-free real trees out for collection on specific dates in January (likely 10th or 17th), while others can use the Summers Lane Reuse & Recycling Centre (RRC) after Christmas. Always remove decorations and lights, and for curbside collection, cut larger trees in half and place them by the boundary.
For Curbside Collection (Garden Waste Subscribers):
- When: Expect collections in January 2026, potentially around Saturday, January 10th, or Saturday, January 17th, as per past patterns.
Real Christmas trees will be collected from households that have signed up to the garden waste collection service. Make sure you've removed all decorations, cut the tree in half and placed it next to your garden waste bin ready for collection. This service is suspended over the Christmas period and restarts in January 2026.
Residents who have not signed up to the garden waste service can take their real Christmas tree to one of the two waste and recycling centres at Thames Road in Crayford and Maidstone Road in Foots Cray for recycling.
For early 2026, Bromley Council will offer temporary Christmas tree drop-off sites (like Norman Park, Salt Depot, Cotmandene) and allow recycling via their Reuse & Recycling Centres (Churchfields Road, potentially Waldo Road reopening partially) and potentially through the Green Garden Waste collection if subscribed, with details published closer to Christmas 2025 on the Bromley Council website. Remember to remove all decorations and check the council's official site for specific 2026 dates and locations after Christmas 2025.
