The Piece Hall Case Study

The Piece Hall required a carefully designed Christmas installation to enhance its iconic courtyard during the festive season. As a Grade I listed heritage site and major cultural destination, the objective was to deliver a visually impactful yet sensitive installation that complemented the historic architecture while enhancing visitor experience.

The Challenge

The Challenge

Working within a heritage organisation of this significance introduced a number of critical considerations. The installation needed to protect the reputation and integrity of the site, while adhering to strict conservation and risk management requirements.

Public visibility and scrutiny meant the final result needed to meet high expectations, both aesthetically and operationally. As there were no socket, a bespoke stand was built to order.

In addition, the design needed to align with a cohesive festive theme, ensuring the installation enhanced the space without overwhelming its historic character.

The Solution

The Solution

A large 30ft Norway spruce Christmas tree installation was delivered within the central courtyard, positioned to create a natural focal point while respecting the surrounding architecture.

The design focused on a timeless and elegant aesthetic, using 4000 carefully selected lighting of 100 LED multi-colour lights to complement the historic setting. A bespoke civic stand was installed.

The project was executed within agreed access windows, with full consideration given to logistics, safety, and the operational needs of the venue.

The installation delivered a striking yet sympathetic festive centrepiece, enhancing The Piece Hall’s seasonal programme and creating a memorable visitor experience. The tree acted as a focal point within the courtyard, supporting events, footfall, and social engagement throughout the Christmas period.

A well-placed installation enhanced the visitor experience without disrupting the site, while also creating opportunities for press coverage and social media engagement. The project reinforced the importance of working with a partner experienced in heritage environments and conservation-led delivery.
