Middle Temple Case Study

Middle Temple, one of the four historic Inns of Court, required a coordinated Christmas installation across its courtyard and multiple internal spaces. Set along the River Thames in a high-footfall central London location, the site combines significant heritage value with active daily use by barristers, staff, and visitors.

The Brief

The Brief

The objective was to deliver a traditional, high-quality festive scheme that enhanced the external setting whilst respecting the character of this prestigious institution.

Working within a historic and operational legal institution presented several complexities. The installation needed to preserve the integrity and appearance of a heritage courtyard, while also extending consistently across multiple internal rooms with different uses and layouts. Access restrictions, careful handling requirements, and the need to avoid disruption to daily activity added further pressure.

In addition, the scheme required a cohesive aesthetic across a large number of trees, wreaths, and garlands, ensuring a consistent look and feel throughout the site without appearing overdone.

The Solution

The Solution

A comprehensive, multi-location installation was delivered, using a unified red and gold theme.

The courtyard was anchored by a 15ft decorated Christmas tree, complemented by two 7ft Norway Spruce trees positioned at the entrance gates to frame arrival points. Additional garlands with integrated decorations were installed to enhance architectural features and walkways.

A series of Nordmann Fir trees (7ft–15ft) were installed across key locations. Each tree was dressed with coordinated red and gold decorations and warm white LED lighting to maintain a consistent, elegant look. Festive wreath and gralands were also installed.

All installations were carefully planned and executed to suit the building’s layout, with appropriate stands, lighting, and positioning to ensure both safety and visual balance across the site.

The installation delivered a cohesive and traditional festive environment that enhanced the courtyard of Middle Temple, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for members and visitors throughout the Christmas period. The scheme successfully balanced scale and subtlety, ensuring the historic setting remained the focal point while benefiting from seasonal enhancement.
