Brixton Bid Case Study

Brixton Business Improvement District (BID) set out to create a high-impact festive installation in one of London’s busiest town centres, directly outside Brixton Station, a location with extremely high daily footfall and visibility. The objective was simple:

Drive seasonal footfall, create a focal point for visitors, and reinforce Brixton as a Christmas destination.

The Challenge

The Challenge

Town centres and BIDs like Brixton operate in a uniquely challenging environment, where delivering high-impact seasonal experiences must be balanced against tight budgets, complex stakeholder groups, and increasing expectations for measurable results. At the same time, Christmas represents the most important trading period of the year, making it critical to attract visitors and support local businesses:

  • Limited budgets with high expectations for impact
  • Multiple stakeholders (BID, council, local businesses)
  • Pressure to stand out during a crowded festive calendar
  • Need for visible, measurable results during peak retail season
The Solution

The Solution

A large-scale, 40ft outdoor Christmas tree installation was delivered in a prime, high-footfall location near Brixton Station. The tree acted as a visual anchor within the town centre, impossible to miss and instantly recognisable.

Key Features:

  • Statement real Christmas tree (up to 40ft)
  • Professionally installed using crane logistics
  • Decorated with LED warm white / ice white lighting
  • Finished with a lit star centrepiece
  • Secure civic-grade installation for public safety

The installation helped position Brixton as a festive destination, supporting iIncreased seasonal footfall, stronger local business engagement and a more vibrant and welcoming town centre experience. Even beyond a single installation, festive activations contribute to long-term place-making and destination identity, encouraging repeat visits and community pride.

Key Outcomes:

  1. A Clear Focal Point
A central installation gave visitors a natural meeting place and landmark, reinforcing the town centre as a destination.

  2. Increased Footfall at Peak Trading Time
Festive installations play a direct role in increasing visits during the most critical retail period. December footfall in Brixton has shown strong year-on-year growth, reflecting the impact of coordinated seasonal activity

  3. Community Benefit
The installation helped position Brixton as a festive destination. Even beyond a single installation, festive activations contribute to long-term place-making and destination identity, encouraging repeat visits and community pride.
